"Before you speak, let your words pass through three gates.
At the first gate, ask yourself, ‘Is it true?’
At the second ask, ‘Is it necessary?’
At the third gate ask ‘Is it kind?’"

"Instead of saying “I don’t have time” try saying “it’s not a priority,” and see how that feels. Often, that’s a perfectly adequate explanation. I have time to iron my sheets, I just don’t want to. But other things are harder. Try it: “I’m not going to edit your résumé, sweetie, because it’s not a priority.” “I don’t go to the doctor because my health is not a priority.” If these phrases don’t sit well, that’s the point. Changing our language reminds us that time is a choice. If we don’t like how we’re spending an hour, we can choose differently."

every once in awhile i find a new design that makes me smile. and for something new to make me smile, it has to not only look good, but have potential for social and/or environmental development. This is one of those designs. (and it’s a graduation work! amazing..)
Definitely the bike of my day as well !
Reminding of 80’s plastic toys and TRON.
From designboom (thanks for the lead Quinten !) :
Israeli design student Dror Peleg has designed ‘frii’ for for his degree at bezalel academy of art and design, jerusalem. Focusing on the mass production of bicycles with limited resources, this single speed city bike is made with various recycled plastics using injection molding technology. compared to the construction of the traditional metal bicycle, this process is less labor-intensive and more accessible: It can be customized to characteristics of local industry- its abilities, advantages and disadvantages.
i love balloons. it makes me think of the 300 i saw at once in france. these are particularily cute. i want them on my wall (that’s a subtle hint daniel)

"Your time is limited, so don’t waste it living someone else’s life. Don’t be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people’s thinking. Don’t let the noise of others’ opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."

really powerful. One word i like to consider at the center of my design work is “gezellig”. it’s the dutch word for cosiness, but it goes beyond that. It’s about cosiness with people around you, warmth from companionship, and security knowing you can depend on others nearby. After this video, i think i will add “compassion” to my vocabulary.
i don’t post much, but i try to select things i really love or believe. This is one i believe. Sir Ken Robinson also talks about this when speaking of creativity. He relates his story to children and how they aren’t afraid to “have a go”. If we hold onto this fear of being wrong, or making a mistake, or not doing something right, then the chances are you will never make anything at all. Which is a bigger pity?

this reminds me of infographics. it’s beautiful, diagram or not.

nice shirt: rule of thirds
Christine is my boyfriends’ little sister. She is wise beyond her years, and her blog charms me, makes me think, and reminds me to stop and think from time to time. Today i read this on her blog, and I really think it could and should be published somewhere. What a strong thought.
rule of thirds
I am divided into thirds.
- one third feels things as if it was for the first time. it feels the real emotion of situations that haven’t even happened yet. this is the most dominant third.
- one third is convinced it’s all in my head, it tries to be logical and brushes off any thoughts of “what if” or “maybe”. this third is a relief when it presents itself, which is hardly.
- one third is strong. it acknowledges that there is only this present moment, that I am a human being/animal created to be able to adapt. this third accepts whatever may come with open arms and trusts that i will always find a way. however, this third is so fleeting and rare that i hardly consider it a third. but it’s nice to recognize that it has shown itself.
